Project Description
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Health (OAH), commissioned an impact study of the effectiveness of the Making Proud Choices (MPC)! teen pregnancy prevention program.
This study uses a random assignment design to measure the effectiveness of the program, as delivered in schools and by external health educators, with schools as the unit of assignment. A baseline survey will be administered, followed by surveys at approximately 9 and 15 months after baseline. The study will measure fidelity through facilitator logs and observations.
The pilot study was conducted in Mobile, Alabama, during the 2016/17 school year. The full study will be conducted in approximately 30 schools (treatment and control) across the U.S. from fall 2017 through spring 2019. DIR has developed a Web-based instrument for collecting attendance and fidelity data and has created an online platform for entering observation data. During the full study, DIR will train participating health educators to collect attendance and fidelity data, and will observe approximately 10 percent of all modules delivered.
