The Bank Examination Evaluation
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), within the U.S. Department of Treasury, contracted with DIR to conduct a national evaluation of banks’ experiences with OCC’s examination and supervision process. This evaluation aims to enhance the institutions’ future supervision experiences.
DIR administers the Bank Examination Questionnaire (BEQ), a 40-item web survey, to bank presidents and CEOs nationwide. Monthly postal mail alerts precede survey invitations, which include personalized links sent via email. Respondents have 30 days to complete the survey, with periodic reminders issued to non-responders. DIR delivers monthly reports to OCC, detailing response rates, regional and bank size metrics, deliverables, and incident updates.
DIR also produces semi-annual and annual reports featuring cross-sectional and trend analyses. Using ANOVA and regression techniques, the reports identify score variations over time and by community banking groups. These findings offer valuable insights to OCC, informing improvements to the supervision and examination process.
